The 29th Strategic IAESTE Development (SID) meeting was held in Banja Luka, Republika Srpska, Bosnia &Herzegovina from 24th to 27th April 2014.
A lovely, very well structured and genuine city together with the warm welcome from IAESTE Bosnia and Herzegovina werw the ultimate ingredients to stimulate everbody’s enthusiasm to its fullest!
The opening ceremony was held at the Socijalno Edukativni Centar Banja Luka, where we were much honored to be welcomed by the minister of Science Jasmin Komić. His inspiring speech encouraged the 43 devoted participants from 21 different countries to start working. Emphasis was placed on the idea that it is important to wxchenge ideas and knowledge in multi-cultural enviroments.
After a good lunch, all the brainstorming activity would begin. There were 4 workgroups:
- Fee Structure & Finance;
- IAESTE Strategy 2020;
- COBE, IntraWiki and Policy and Procedure Guide;
- Marketing and Technology.
Another important matter was the election of the next SID hosting country, as delegated by the General Conference at Quito. During this Seminar we elected IAESTE Slovakia for 2015. Congratulations to them and we are enthusiastic about having the next SID meeting there. I’d like to express my gratitude to the devoted workgroup leaders. They made it possible for us to make 14 vital recommendations to the Board this year.
Cencerning the overall organization and logistics, IAESTE bosnia and Herzegovina proved to be extremely good meeting organizers. The event was very successful and the participants had an astonishing Gala Dinner on the roof of one of Government buildings with an exquisite view. The special guest was Mtel-Telecomunication of Republic of Srpska, one of the companies that have been collaborating with IAESTE Bosnia and Herzegovina for over 10 years.
In short, the feedback of all participants was very positive and i am sure that you will agree with me- this year’s SID meeting was yet another success, be it due to the hospitality, the food and social events, the structure which allowed for stimulating and lively discussion and the thought provoking ideas. Troughout the meeting we had renewed enthusiasm, new directions, new ideas and stronger personal ties. These are only just some of the benefits of an event like this. We identified not only some of the challenges but more importantly, provided plausible solutions and strategies. Our SID Team is committed to work hard and consistently all year long and will obtain positive results to present to the General Conference in 2015.
